Composite Restorations

When it comes to restoring teeth, the composite resin (white fillings) offer a very good alternative. Traditionally, teeth have been restored (filled) with amalgam (silver) fillings. These can be unsightly. In addition, amalgam does not bond to teeth.

Composite resins offer patients a better option for a variety of reasons. First, they are very esthetic. They match the color of the tooth being restored. It is almost like an invisible filling. Second, they bond to the tooth structure. What this means is that when Dr. Watson is preparing the tooth to be filled, he has to remove less tooth structure. And finally, when teeth are cracked or weakened, the bonding of the filling to the tooth can offer additional protection. When you do need a filling, be sure to ask for composite resin. It is a great alternative.
